Overtoom

The webcam originally started as “overtoom.tv” and was very popular with tourists and passers-by, due to the proximity of the famous Vondelpark.

Corner Jan Pieter Heijestraat

The Overtoom is one of Amsterdam’s busiest streets, as it is one of the few main roads leading from the city ring (circle A10) to the city heart – the Leidseplein.

Until the year 1903 the Overtoom was open water, a canal, with streets on both sides.
Now a tram travels in the middle lane.
South of the Overtoom stretches the famous Vondelpark, very popular to both Amsterdam citizens and tourists.

The Overtoom is a popular shopping street and residential area with many different kind of shops, café’s and restaurants.

On the picture you see directly in front Fabricati for modern furniture and gifts (with the red blinds).
Next you can see a pharmacy (Staring), and on the corner with the Jan Pieter Heijestraat an Ethiopian restaurant.
On the far right corner a sports & fitness shop (Asahi).

The Overtoom is part of the neighborhood called “Oud West” (“Old West”).
